Ferrari could Share Formula One Engine with Next-Gen LaFerrari XX

Date: May 6, 2014

In the world of production super cars, you would be hard-pressed to find a model faster than the LaFerrari XX. Sure McLaren, and Porsche, spend some time jockeying for the top title but after hearing some recent news from Germany, the LaFerrari XX could be the new record-holder.

Last week, news came pouring in from across the Atlantic where it was reported at a LaFerrari XX completed a lap on the legendary Nürburgring race track in just 6 minutes and 35 seconds. If not for the racing slicks fitted to the wheels, it certainly would have gained the title of fastest production-based car to finish a lap. Since then, we have learned that next year could bring more innovation to the LaFerrari XX that will make it even faster than the model recently tested.

Industry insiders are already saying that as soon as next January, we could witness the arrival of a new LaFerrari XX built with the new Formula One V6 turbocharged hybrid engine. Currently the LaFerrari models are built with the brand’s 6.3-liter V12 engine, but replacing the drivetrain could help reduce overall weight.

Of course we are waiting for official confirmation of these rumors, but until then we will keep our fingers crossed that a real new F1 engine could make its way into the new Ferrari lineup.
